The Action démocratique du Québec is born of the
"Réseau des Libéraux pour le Non", a dissident and autonomist wing of the
Québec Liberal Party founded during the referendum on the Charlottetown Accord (October
26, 1992) and led by Jean Allaire and Mario Dumont. The group broke out of the Québec Liberal Party in
1993 and founded the ADQ in 1994.
