The Action libérale nationale, founded in 1934 by Paul Gouin, is a splinter part of the Liberal Party. It concluded an alliance with the Conservative Party (called the "Union Nationale Duplessis-Gouin") against the Liberal Party during the 1935 general elections. Both parties merged in 1936 under the direction of Maurice Duplessis. However, due to conflicts with Duplessis, Gouin and his allies left the Union Nationale during the summer of 1936. The leaders of the ALN, except for Gouin, founded the "Parti national" in 1937, which folded the next year. After a rebirth of the ALN, under the leadership of Paul Gouin, in 1938, the party disappeared for good after the 1939 general elections.
