The 37th legislature of the National Assembly of Quebec has just entered in its fourth year of mandate. Mr. Jean J. Charest (LIB), Prime Minister of Quebec, has until May 27, 2008 to dissolve the National Assembly and summon the voters to a general election, which could take place, if the mandate was extended up to the extreme limit, on June 30, 2008. However, it is likely that the next general election will take place earlier, likely on spring of 2007.
So, within the next months, Mr. Charest will ask the Lieutenent Governor of Quebec, Mrs. Lise Thibault, by virtue of her honorary role, to dissolve the National Assembly of Quebec to proceed to a general election. It will be the 38th general election since the Confederation.
