
The Rassemblement pour l'indépendance nationale (RIN: Rally for National Independence) was founded in 1960 as a political movement aiming at to make the promotion of the independence of Quebec. It became a political party in 1963.
The RIN scuppered itself during a special convention held two weeks after the foundation of the Parti Québécois (PQ: Quebec's Party), while incitating it's adherents of join PQ on an individual basis.

Parti républicain du Québec (Republican Party of Quebec): In November, 1962, the president of the RIN (who had not yet constituted itself as a political party in the period), Marcel Chaput, left the movement to be a candidate during the general election of 1962 and based afterward the Parti républicain du Québec, which was dissolved in 1964 in reason notably of money troubles.

Regroupement national (National Grouping): On September, 1964, five members of the RIN, among which René Jutras, Lucien Lessard and Jean Garon, judging the ideological orientation of the party too to the left, left the party to found the Regroupement national (see Ralliement national (RN)).
