The Parti socialiste du Québec (SOC: Socialist Party of Quebec) was founded in November, 1963. Its creation ensues from a schism on the question of the self-determination of Quebec during the founding convention of the Nouveau Parti démocratique du Québec (NPD: New Democratic Party of Quebec) in June, 1963, the NPD-Québec deciding then to concentrate its efforts on the federal scene while letting the Parti socialiste du Québec work on the Quebec scene.
Although having never had the status of registered political party, it presented five candidates during the General Election of 1966.
The Parti socialiste du Québec was dissolved in February, 1968.
