The Ralliement national (RN) was founded in March, 1966 following a merger between the Regroupement national (National Grouping), a dissident wing of the Rassemblement pour l'indépendance nationale (RIN: Rally for National Independence) founded in 1964 and led by René Jutras, and by the Quebec wing of the Ralliement des créditistes (Social Credit Rally) led by Laurent Legault.
The RN merged with the Mouvement souveraineté-association (MSA: Sovereignty-Association Movement) in October, 1968 under the Parti Québécois (PQ: Quebec's Party) label.
