By-Election in Mercier

On September 28, 2000, Mr. Robert Perreault (PQ), MNA for
Mercier and Minister of the Relations with the citizens and Immigration, announced his
dismissal as Member of the National Assembly and Member of the Cabinet, this dismissal
being effective on October 6, 2000.
By virtue of Section 130 of the Loi électorale (Election
Act: L.R.Q., c. E-3.3), any vacant seat in the National Assembly of Quebec has to be
filled following a by-election held in the riding represented by the outgoing MNA.
The by-election to happen in Mercier will be held on April 9, 2001. At this occasion, Mrs.
Nathalie Rochefort, candidate of the Parti libéral du Québec (LIB), was
elected.
