The Special Council of Lower Canada was an unelected deliberative assembly created by the British Parliament by virtue of the "Act to establish temporary capacities for the government of Lower Canada", assented on February 10, 1838 and proclaimed in Lower Canada by governor John Colborne on March 27, 1838. This law suspended the Constitution of Lower Canada following the Revolt of the Patriots of 1837-38 and replaced both Houses of the Parliament of Lower Canada (House of Assembly and Legislative Council) by a special council asked to adopt the prescriptions for peace, orderand good government of Lower Canada. The Special Council of Lower Canada was dissolved following the promulgation of the Act of Union on February 10, 1841.
